1. Surface Strengthening Treatment of Die Casting Dies




The surface of die-casting molds has a lot of contact with external factors, and the surface strengthening treatment process is simple, fast, efficient, and the workpiece deformation is small. It can effectively improve the fatigue strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. of die-casting molds. Electric spark discharge strengthening method, soft nitriding, shot peening strengthening method, etc. are common surface strengthening treatment methods.




The electric spark discharge strengthening method refers to the periodic contact between the positive and negative electrodes of the connecting circuit through pulse circuit discharge, causing air gap discharge. The spark formed is covered with high-temperature wear-resistant materials on the surface of the workpiece. Under the action of electric spark and high-temperature, the chemical composition and metallographic structure of the base metal are changed to form a deposition layer, reducing surface erosion, preventing metal from biting with the mold surface, and extending the service life of the mold.





2. Standardized operating procedures




Reasonable and standardized operating procedures are crucial for extending the service life of die-casting molds during the production process.




① Reasonable preheating temperature; During the production process, the magnitude of stress in the die-casting mold is proportional to the temperature gradient, and a reasonable preheating temperature can enhance the thermal fatigue resistance of the mold.




② Correct use of mold coatings; The location in the die casting mold where the coating is not evenly sprayed is often the area where the mold is severely corroded. Therefore, during coating, the spraying pressure should be appropriately increased to overcome droplet condensation and achieve uniform coating of the mold surface as much as possible.




③ Regular maintenance and upkeep; The deformation of components and loosening of bolts in die-casting molds are important reasons for early mold failure. Regular maintenance and repair of die-casting molds can effectively extend the service life of the molds.




④ Strictly comply with installation specifications; Before and during the use of die-casting molds, it is necessary to strictly adhere to operating standards, understand the basic structure of the mold and precautions during use. Before and after use, the surface of the mold should be inspected and cleaned. When not in use for a long time, attention should be paid to rust prevention, and the mold should be regularly stress relieved.




As an efficient metal forming process without cutting, die-casting technology is widely used in industrial production in China. The study of the lifespan of die-casting molds is of great significance for the future development of the die-casting industry.
